Sojourner's Song

“I have become a pilgrim to cure myself of being an exile.” -G. K. Chesterton

Aaron Telian

I'm a clumsy Christian on a journey of discipline and discovery with Jesus. As a recovering Pharisee, I'm learning to trust God's grace over my goodness. I love the world, and I'm excited about learning what it means to be salt and light in a Post-Christian culture. This is where I write about living the sojourn.

Ooh, books!

Calvin Miller sounds really, really familiar, although I don't think I've read The Singer.

The whole Wrinkle in Time series is excellent - really deep and thought provoking (not Christian, but gives food for thought about a lot of life and creation).

The Borrowers series is a truly wonderful series for kids. We love that series and have read our books pretty much to tatters.

Mark Twain is good, of course.

I've tried reading The Odyssey, but I can never get very far at all.

Tee hee - the word verification to put this comment here is "readd." Seriously!

Can I throw in my two cents?

I've heard of Lord of the Flies, and read an excerpt or two. You may be aware of this, but the story is gruesome and horrifying. It may be appropriate for some, but I have no intention of reading it any further.

Regarding The Singer: I have read it, and recommend it, along with the second and third books in the trilogy, The Song and The Finale. I believe we have copies of each. Together, they present quite an allegory of Jesus' life, the early church, and the end of the age.

I disagree with my sister, actually, on the Wrinkle in Time series. The author delves into the supernatural without being particularly careful. For instance, one of the "good" characters in the first book is a "happy medium" (a play on words).

I don't think I've read most of the others you mentioned.

I just realized -- in my comments about The Singer trilogy, I hope I didn't give too much away!

Wow... I've actually read books that you picked up o.O. There's a new experience for me...

I remember Lord of the Flies being rather interesting, actually... but then I'm sort of weird.

The Borrowers is fun, Odyssey... well, it's a classic, so... boring XD. Huckleberry Finn... I was too young to enjoy that book. A Wrinkle in Time is a mind bender at times and I, at least, really enjoyed it's story.

Looking forward to some reviews! (b'.')b
