After I had been there about 5 or 6 days, finally found someplace that had granola on the menu...what a treat!
If you are driving yourself up to Galilee, I would suggest stopping briefly at Jericho, that is unless this is part of the West Bank that Isr. has given the Palestinians...Luke 19 Zacchaeus/Jesus encounter

Another stop several miles north is Valley Bet Shean. The 'dig' was interesting. When I was there it had progressed down to Byzantine era. This is the site where after the Isr. lost the battle to Philistines and they displayed Saul's and Jonathan's bodies on the city wall for public display. 1Sam. 31.

In the Galilee area is the Arbel where you can get a beautiful view of the Sea of Galilee, Cana Capernaun and the agriculture.

I really enjoyed Nazareth....the falafels from the street vendors are good.(:

Don't miss the Church of Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor. Note how the movement of the earth allows the sun to shine through the stained glass windown. Same architect that built Dominus Flavius on Mt. of Olives.

There is an artist colony that was very interesting a few miles north of the Sea of Galilee, Zefat.

On farther north toward Dan is the headwater of the Jordan. Don't know whether you will be able to or not, but coming back south toward the Sea from Dan we came through Golan Heights to the eastern shore of the Galilee. You will enjoy the Galilee area, Iknow. In the spring when I was there, lots of lush agriculture in a couple of the valleys.

All for now. Will you be returning to Jer.?? You cannot possibly covered all of it???

Love,
G'Ma.joan71https://www.blogger.com/profile/05138945462824127557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31175562.post-63152692052595963852008-01-26T20:50:00.000-08:002008-01-26T20:50:00.000-08:00Thanks Grandma. From here we'll be heading up to Galilee, so I'll look forward to hearing your advice about what to do up there.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16511120181544360746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31175562.post-83636653359258395142008-01-26T18:27:00.000-08:002008-01-26T18:27:00.000-08:00Hi Aaron,Don't know your wherabouts presently, but...Hi Aaron,
Don't know your wherabouts presently, but hope your are experiencing Israel as fully as I did many years ago.
Some places that your might want to explore if you are headed south would be Ein Gedi Judean Nature Reserve where there are many trails to explore. I took the short 1 1/2 hr one to the Falls. It was a very hot day in May and we stood beneath the Falls and let them rain down on us fully clothed. Many wild animals to see. " Now it came about, when Saul returned from pursuing the the Philistines, he was told saying, 'behold, David is in the wilderness of Eingedi'" 1Sam. 24:1
It might be too cold to take a walk into the Dead Sea, but at least stick you finger in its water to experience the oily/salty condition.

Yes, big contrast of the hustle and bustle of Jer., compared to Shabat. On Shabot we walked from our hotel,The Kikar Zion just off Ben Yahuda, to Great Synagog to a Jewish Service. A Jewish guest in our hotel from Chicago tagged along with us (first time she had been to synagog in 25 years).
I will point out some of the memorable sites in Galilee later.

Praying for all 4 of you daily
Look forward to hearing all the details when you return,
Love G/MaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
